AZ-900 Updated July 2026: What Changed (and What Didn't)

Microsoft updated the AZ-900 exam on July 20, 2026. If you are preparing for it, here is the reassuring part first: the update is minor. The three exam areas and their weightings did not change, the passing score is still 700, and the format is the same. A handful of objectives were refreshed to reflect current Azure. Your existing preparation still counts.

What actually changed

Microsoft's official change log marks this update as minor. Three objective areas were touched, and each is flagged as a small change rather than a rewrite:

• Compute and networking services
• The tools for managing and deploying Azure resources
• Monitoring tools in Azure

A minor flag means the sub-topics inside those areas were adjusted — a few points refreshed to match how Azure works today — not that whole topics were added or removed. Everything else in the skills outline stayed as it was.

What did not change

This is the part that matters if you are already studying. None of the following moved:

• The three areas and their weightings — cloud concepts (25–30%), Azure architecture and services (35–40%), and Azure management and governance (30–35%).
• The passing score — still 700.
• The format and level — still beginner, still describe-focused, no labs.
• The audience — still aimed at people new to Azure, with no prerequisites.

Does your preparation still count?

Yes. Because the domains, the weightings, and the large majority of objectives are unchanged, everything you studied before July 20 still applies. If you were preparing against the previous version, you are not starting over. At most, take a few minutes to skim the current sub-topics in the three refreshed areas so you catch any small additions.

What to do now

• Mid-preparation? Keep going. Glance at the updated skills outline for compute and networking, resource management and deployment, and monitoring, then carry on.
• Already passed? Nothing to do. Your certification is unaffected, and fundamentals certifications do not expire.
