You create a free Azure account, launch a Linux VM, install Apache web service, configure a network security group, and replace the default page with your own. Then we compare infrastructure as a service with platform as a service and deploy a web app on Azure App Service with no server to manage.

What you'll be able to do
- Starting from an empty subscription, create a Linux VM through the Azure portal and sign in to it with SSH keys.
- Turn that machine into a web server and open your own page from any browser.
- Find out why the page first refuses to load, and fix it with a single network security group rule.
- Put a budget and an alert in place first, and remove everything at the end so no charges carry on.
- Name the parts every virtual machine needs: a size, an image, disks, a network interface and IP addresses.
- Publish a website on Azure App Service, and decide when PaaS is a better fit than IaaS.
- Put resources, resource groups, subscriptions and management groups in the right order.
- Link each thing you built to the matching lines of the AZ-900 skills outline.
About this course
This course is about one Azure workload that you build yourself, from start to finish. You begin with an empty subscription. You finish with a Linux virtual machine that serves a web page on the public internet.
Something goes wrong on purpose along the way. Your page will not load, even though every step was right. Working out why shows you what a network security group does, and why opening every port is the wrong fix.
Then you do the same job the easy way. You publish a site on Azure App Service, where there is no server for you to run, and compare the two approaches from experience. At the end you delete everything, on camera, so nothing is left running.
